Innovative Technology for Seniors Preserves Independence, Without Sacrificing Privacy
Industry Insight | March 2026
Across Momentum's communities, advanced technology is helping residents stay safe, connected, and independent, all while protecting the privacy that makes a residence feel like home.
One of the main concerns adult children of seniors often have is their parents' safety, especially if they have a parent who lives alone.
Fortunately, today's technology for older adults offers a variety of solutions that can benefit nearly any senior, including those who live in a Momentum community.
Some of the most advanced senior care technology is powered by artificial intelligence (AI), a category Momentum has embraced across its portfolio to help prevent falls, support care teams, and elevate the resident experience.
Momentum Is Leading the Way
While advances in technology are transforming the senior care industry, not all operators have made it a priority. At Momentum, we've made technology a cornerstone of how we design, build, and operate every community, and we've been delighted to see how quickly residents embrace these tools when they move in.
From AI-powered safety systems to resident engagement apps, our communities are equipped with thoughtful, modern technology that complements, rather than replaces, the warmth of personal care.
AI Safety Tools Perfectly Complement Assisted Living
Fear of falling is high on the list of safety concerns among older adults and their families. Once a fall occurs, the fear of falling again can be overwhelming. In many cases, this prompts the decision to move into assisted living.
The AI safety platforms used across Momentum communities work around the clock, helping ensure residents' well-being without invading their privacy. This brings peace of mind not only to residents but also to their loved ones, and we've found it bolsters residents' confidence, too. Knowing that intelligent support is always there helps them feel less reliant on others, increasing their sense of independence.
How the Technology Works
Momentum's communities use augmented intelligence platforms designed specifically for senior living. These systems use small, wall-mounted sensors, no cameras or microphones, placed in areas where falls commonly occur, such as near the bed and in the living room. The system automatically monitors movement, so residents never need to interact with it.
The images these systems capture are digitized into moving shapes rather than recognizable video, protecting residents' privacy while still allowing care teams to see when someone is sitting up, getting out of bed, or in distress.
When the system detects that a resident may be at risk, it activates an alarm at the care team's station and sends an alert to team members' mobile devices in real time. Over time, the platform also helps with early detection, flagging changes in movement patterns so a member of the care team can check in and understand what might be going on.
More Technology Throughout Momentum Communities
AI safety platforms are just one example of how technology enhances quality of life across Momentum. Residents in our communities also use purpose-built engagement apps designed specifically for seniors, easy to navigate from a smartphone, tablet, or computer.
Through these apps, residents can:
- Connect with neighbors, family, and friends
- Stay up to date on what's happening in the community
- Sign up for events and programs
- Check daily menus, fitness class schedules, and transportation times
- Submit requests for service or maintenance
Elevating Convenience and Safety With Smart Home and Voice Technology
Smart home technology lets residents easily control the lighting, temperature, and fans in their apartments without having to manually adjust them. The same systems can discreetly monitor motion and let staff know when residents are up and active, helping ensure safety without requiring residents to check in.
Voice technology adds another layer of convenience, allowing residents to use simple voice commands for everyday tasks throughout their day.
Preparing for the Future
Technological advances will undoubtedly continue to improve senior living in the years ahead, and Momentum intends to maintain its role as an early adopter, bringing the right innovations into our communities in ways that genuinely serve our residents.
