The Marisol Breaks Ground in Huntington Beach with $252M in Financing Secured
Announcement | June 2026
After nearly a decade in the making, Momentum Senior Living and the Bluhm Family Foundation broke ground on The Marisol, a 214-residence luxury senior living community at Main Street and Yorktown Avenue, across from Huntington Beach City Hall.
Huntington Beach, CA – June 2026 – On June 11, civic leaders, developers, and the Momentum Senior Living team gathered at the corner of Main Street and Yorktown Avenue to break ground on The Marisol, a luxury senior living community nearly a decade in the making. The 214-residence community will rise across from Huntington Beach City Hall, beside Seacliff Village shopping center, and diagonally from Huntington Beach High School.
Developed by the Bluhm Family Foundation, designed by VTBS Architects, and managed by Momentum Senior Living, The Marisol will offer assisted living and memory care residences in a mix of studio, one-, and two-bedroom floor plans. First residents are expected to move in by 2028.
We expect the majority of people to maybe not need as much care, but move in more for the lifestyle and the amenities. We're going to have a swimming pool, a full bar, and activities. Interestingly enough, our most popular activity for seniors right now is boxing.

A Name Born of Sea and Sun
Momentum Chief Operating Officer Gilbert Carrasco explained that the community's name was created by combining "Mar", Spanish for sea or ocean, with "Sol," meaning sun. The pairing reflects the coastal Southern California setting and the warm, light-filled architecture VTBS has designed for the site.
$252 Million in Construction Financing
After pandemic-era delays and a difficult interest-rate environment, the project ultimately secured $252 million in construction financing through tax-exempt bonds arranged by JLL Securities and HJ Sims. The capital stack clears the way for vertical construction to begin immediately and positions The Marisol as one of the largest senior living developments breaking ground in Orange County this year.

Designed for a Coastal Lifestyle
Close to the beach and minutes from Main Street's restaurants and shops, The Marisol is designed to draw residents who want a vibrant, amenity-rich lifestyle, not simply a higher level of care. Plans call for a resort-style swimming pool, a full-service bar, multiple dining venues, a salon and spa, a private theater, a game room, and expansive social and wellness spaces.
The location also opens the door to intergenerational programming with neighboring Huntington Beach High School, from inviting student musicians and athletes into the community to organizing resident visits to school events.
the-marisol. A First Look at The Marisol
We can do a lot of intergenerational activities. Where we've had communities close to schools, it's been awesome to cooperate, whether it's having the band over to play or even inviting the residents to go watch the sports. It's going to be great. I'm looking forward to that.
Meeting a Growing Need in Orange County
The groundbreaking comes as Orange County, and Huntington Beach in particular, continues to age. The Orange County Office on Aging projects that by 2060, adults 65 and older will make up roughly 36% of the county's population, outpacing the statewide projection of 33%. The median age in Huntington Beach is already 44, six years older than California overall, and residents 70 and older account for roughly 14% of the city.
Great location, close to the beach, close to shopping and dining. This shopping center behind me is one of the best we have in the entire city of Huntington Beach. A lot of great new tenants have come in, so we're really excited about it. We really appreciate the investment.
What Comes Next
