ENCINO, Calif. - Construction is underway for a luxury senior living community in Encino offering spacious apartments, modern amenities and personalized care in an elegant setting evoking the timeless glamor of old Hollywood. Located off Ventura Boulevard, The Vered will feature 123 assisted living and memory care residences and welcome residents in October 2024.
With 15% of Los Angeles County's population over 65, Encino stands out with one of the area's greatest growing needs for the aging population. "There aren't many options for assisted living, memory care and senior living in general," said Josh Johnson, CEO of Momentum Senior Living, The Vered's senior living management company. "We saw an opportunity to cater to the local community's needs by introducing a refined, relaxed and rewarding senior living experience with a high level of luxury, comfortable elegance and conveniences."
The six-story community will distinguish itself through spacious residences that provide comfortable living and amenities rarely found in assisted living and memory care communities. Apartments will range from 650 to 800 square feet, much larger than the area's average assisted living space of 400 square feet. Most units will have washers and dryers, and many will feature balconies.
"Large, gated homes are common throughout Encino, so offering bigger spaces will help ease the transition for residents who may find downsizing to an apartment challenging," said Cassandra Moan, executive director of The Vered. "We want to provide a comfortable, secure and upscale living environment for older adults to maintain their luxury lifestyle."
Designed by Urbal Architecture, The Vered's grand, art deco-style interiors draw inspiration from Hollywood's golden era. With a rich palette of gold tones, the welcoming spaces are designed to foster social interaction and meaningful conversations.
Amenities will include a parking garage with valet service, a lobby beverage station, fitness and activity rooms, theater and Sky Lounge, a versatile social event and resident meeting space. The Vered will also be among the few senior living communities in the area with a liquor license and a full bar. Raised garden beds, a dog park area and multiple chef-prepared dining options further enhance the community's offerings.
The Vered's name and logo draw inspiration from the Hebrew word for "rose". Momentum leaders selected the location at 16161 Ventura Blvd. for its convenient access to dining, entertainment, shopping and medical services.
"I think the days of retirement communities in remote areas are behind us. Nowadays, people want walkability, access to vibrant activities and a lively environment," said Johnson. "Ventura Boulevard is right at the heart of it all, where the community comes to life."
Safety and durability were paramount in The Vered design. Building materials include fire-resistant concrete, steel and masonry. "We also have a non-ambulatory license, allowing residents to age in place throughout our six-floor building, unlike most senior living communities in California, where ambulatory restrictions typically apply above the second floor," Johnson said.
He added, "The building's modern design allows us to include numerous oversized windows, providing ample natural sunlight. This is highly beneficial for older adults as it helps them maintain their circadian rhythms."
The Vered will consist of 123 residences, with 107 apartments designated for assisted living and 16 apartments (with accommodations for 17) for memory care. The leasing office, located at 16255 Ventura Boulevard in Suite 706, is scheduled to open on Feb. 1. The phone number is 747.237.3467.
